This magazine is truly lovely and generally-speaking a terrific departure from the standard ladies fare offered out there today. The articles are informed, entertaining, well-written, and cover a myriad of topics concerning women; and the glossy-photographs are of excellent quality. But, I was so disappointed to pick up this magazine in a waiting room recently and find a "fitness make-over" that amounted to the same body make-overs other ladies magazines use, including the measuring of inches and weight lost. I am all for losing weight if it will improve ones health, but it just didnt feel to me like the women covered in that particular write-up really put as much emphasis on health as on how they looked. Ive always thought of Oprah as being a self-love guru, but that one article had me wondering if she really signs off on every piece used in her magazine. If you like "O" magazine, you might also like GRACE magazine which focuses on women size 12 and up.

Ive been using this style of starter for 14 years now going through 6 including many "Brand Names". I grill or BBQ on a weekly basis. Recently I stepped up to the Weber 87886 Chimney Starter. This is the best Ive ever used. It has a heavy duty convex wire cone in the bottom that makes for an easy start with two sheets of newspaper no need to add paper as I used to do with the brand names. Capacity is there is you need it more than with the competitors but it will also do a great job with a small amount of charcoal. The Plastic handle is bonus and stands up to the weather better than wood. The only way I can see melting the handle is using lighter fluid or self starting charcoal or having it too close to flammable material. The barrel is made of a heavier gauge of metal than the competition and others thinner metal gets weak with repeated heating and cooling. The lifting handle is a nice to have feature with a full load of briquettes. Although do yourself a big flavor treat and try Lump Charcoal, also if using briquettes adding unlit ones to a grill in use gives a flavor to the food I dont care for.

This machine is awesome for its price! I bought it 2 weeks ago and Im very satisfied so far. Although the 1415-S173 features a Celeron, the lite chip from Intel, it has a full 256 KB of L2 cache so its performance nearly matches those of the far more expensive Pentium 4 chips (since until Northwood core arrived, P4s featured 256 KB L2 caches). Besides, the processor is a mobile battery-friendly chip. The laptops hard drive is pretty fast and spacious; its DVD/CDRW unit works flawlessly and is among the less noisy units Ive ever seen. It burns CDs at a 24X speed! DVD or DIVX reproduction is as smooth as a silk (not to mention DIVX encoding, is fast!). Ok, it has only 16 MB of video memory but those are real MB, not shared ones, so their performance is a way better if compared to most laptop graphics within the price range. Also, the graphics chip, which is what really makes the difference, is a speedy GeForce 4 Go 420! (NOT an ATI M6-C). This machine shines in games (they look gorgeous in its huge and bright 15 screen), even in some newer ones like NFS 6 or Unreal Tournament 2003 (maybe it doesnt matches the standards of high end desktop graphics of course, but those titles were still perfectly playable). My only complaint about this machine is its weight you should have strong shoulders if you want to carry it around. However, I still give it an A+

I have Leslies Walk Away The Pounds deluxe set, which comes with the 1 mile walk tape, the 2 mile, the 3 mile, and the weighted balls. I started only 3 weeks ago, and I have been doing the 2 mile video every day, and the 3 mile when I feel more energetic. This really works! I have lost weight and inches already! These workouts are easy, but they WORK! I have cut back on junk food, so I am not doing a major life changing diet, yet its still working. I am a clutz and get very tired easy, I have no coordination, but I can do these! :) There is no jumping around and you need very little room, which is a plus. I find Leslie very easy to follow and I dont feel lost with whats going on like with Richard Simmons tapes.

If you want to hear Po Bronsons value judgement about your choices in life, or anyone elses, buy this book. That is mostly what you get along with an incredible amount Bronsons egotistical commentary. Some of the storys were very interesting but Bronson interjected himself to the point of irritation and, in my opinion, belittled almost every one of his subjects. Ive read reviews that criticize the book for being limited in its subjects (to over-educated white people), Im one of those people and still couldnt stand to read it. Dont waste your money.

I bought the three best-known LSAT test prep books. I was in despair over taking the LSAT after working through other two, but this one really worked. Buy "Master the LSAT" from Amazon and a pile of practice exams from LSAC; dont bother with the Kaplan and Princeton study guides. I followed the opening instructions to start my prep 12 weeks ahead of my test date, working a little each day (if you arent self-motivated enough to do that, please forget law school). I have no doubt that this book is responsible for my good LSAT score and admittance to law school. Note: Ignore the software. The LSAT is a paper test and the books layout prepares you for the look of the actual test. That familiarity will reduce your test-day anxiety.

I attended one of Dr. Feldmans workshops recently and this was the pre-reading. This book provides outstanding advice on how to understand and control your emotional reaction in difficult situations. The insight I gained from this book is invaluable. reference
Im a loyal fan of AWAD, so I knew what to expect from this book and wasnt disappointed. Each chapter has several odd words, with their histories and examples of how they can be used. But for me, the best part of Anus writing is the selection of quotes that appear at the bottom of each page in small print. Anu Garg has more fun with words than just about anyone around. You cant read him for very long without picking up his enthusiasm. I hope all AWAD readers will get a copy of this as a gift for others--spread the word!

Websters defines as a polemic as "an aggressive attack on the principles or opinions of another." Books such as "Stupid White Men" (on the left) and "Slander" (on the right) exemplify polemics: they preach to the converted, are dogmatic and self-righteous, and are generally one-sided. I gave "Stupid White Men" three stars because, while polemical and strident, its funny as heck also. However, I would recommend any partisan, whether leftist or rightist, to consider reading the United Nations Human Development Report (hdr.undp.org) to place such critiques of the American system in context. The United Nations began the Human Development Index (HDI) in order "to draw attention away from the more usual economic statistics to focus instead on human outcomes, not economic data. The HDI was created to re-emphasize that people and their lives should be the ultimate criteria for assessing the development of a country, not economic growth." Sounds like something Mike Moore would agree with? The HDI rates each country according to a variety of factors, including knowledge, quality of life, and longevity. What might surprise Mike Moore and other critics of Americas capitalist system is that the US ranks #6 overall in human development. Liberals like Moore often tell us that America is the land of stunning inequality, divided between the "truly needy and the truly greedy." They often point to "progressive" Western European nations as their models, with their "cradle-to-grave" welfare systems. However, the United Nations ranks human development in the US higher than in the Netherlands (#8), Switzerland (#11), France (#12), Denmark (#14), Germany (#17), and Italy (#20). Other statistics tend to refute Moores argument that wealthy white men run the country on the backs of the poor, and the US is one of the most unequal countries in the world. The US spends about as much money (as a percentage of GDP) on education as France, and more than Britain, the Netherlands, Japan, Germany, and Italy. Most of this is spent to provide free education to minors. Moore tries to depict the US as a country where the "ordinary guy" cant get ahead. But if employment is necessary to personal advancement and human dignity, then Americans are truly blessed. Unemployment rates are defined as the number of people who want a job but cant get one. Here are the unemployment rates of various developed nations in 2000: Spain 14.1%; Italy 10.7%; France 9.5%; Germany 7.5%; Belgium 7%; and Canada 6.8%. The unemployment rate in the US at the same time? Just 4%. Even during the recent recession, unemployment remained lower in the US. Moores title, "Stupid White Men," suggests that men reign supreme in the US. But the United Nations rates America as one of the four nations in the world with the GREATEST EQUALITY between men and women, in terms of equality of income, education, and life expectancy. While the US ranked #4 in this index, France rated #11, Britain #12, Denmark #13, Germany #16, Israel #22, and Portugal #28. ...P>America is not perfect. Crime levels are still higher here than in Europe or Japan, and we cant seem to beat our addiction to gas and oil. But at the same time the US is nothing like the caricature of inequality and oppression drawn by Moore, Nader, and other left-wing polemicists. In fact, according to the UN, its one of the best places in the world to live.
